But even the most public of personalities have little-known facts buried in their biographies.<br /><br /><b><span style="color: red;">Here are 10 surprising facts you probably didn't know about Nelson Mandela:</span></b><br /><br />1. He lived up to his name: Mandela's birth name was Rolihlahla. In Xhosa, one of the official languages of South Africa, "Rolihlahla" means "pulling the branch of a tree" -- or, troublemaker. (The name "Nelson" was given to him by his teacher on his first day of elementary school. It's not clear why she chose that particular name. It was the early 1920s, and African children were given English names so British colonials could pronounce them easily).<br /><br />2. He had a cameo in a Spike Lee film: He had a bit part in Spike Lee's 1992 biopic "Malcolm X." At the very end of the movie, he plays a teacher reciting Malcolm X's famous speech to a room full of Soweto school kids. But the pacifist Mandela wouldn't say "by any means necessary." There's a woodpecker named after him: From Cape Town to California, streets named after Mandela abound. But he's also been the subject of some rather unusual tributes. Last year, scientists named a prehistoric woodpecker after him: Australopicus nelsonmandelai. In 1973, the physics institute at Leeds University named a nuclear particle the 'Mandela particle.'<br /><br />4. He married a First Lady: Before tying the knot with Mandela on his 80th birthday, Graca Machel was married to Mozambique President Samora Machel. Her marriage to Mandela after her husband's death means she has been the first lady of two nations.<br /><br />5. He was a master of disguise: When Mandela was eluding authorities during his fight against apartheid, he disguised himself in various ways, including as a chauffeur. The press nicknamed him "the Black Pimpernel" because of his police evasion tactics. "I became a creature of the night. I would keep to my hideout during the day, and would emerge to do my work when it became dark," he says in his biography, "Long Walk to Freedom."<br /><br />6. A bloody sport intrigued him: Besides politics, Mandela's other passion was boxing. "I did not like the violence of boxing. I was more interested in the science of it - how you move your body to protect yourself, how you use a plan to attack and retreat, and how you pace yourself through a fight," he says in his biography.<br /><br />7. His favorite dish is probably not yours: He's been wined and dined by world leaders. But what Mandela loved eating most was tripe. Yup, the stomach lining of farm animals.<br /><br />8. He quit his day job: He studied law at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and opened the nation's first black law firm in Johannesburg in 1952.<br /><br />9. He was on the U.S. terror watch list: Mandela wasn't removed from the U.S. terror watch list until 2008 -- at age 89. The car crossed at least four junctions, three toll booths and drove  along at least 22 km of the ORR with the frightened victim inside the  locked car.<br /><a href="http://www.deccanchronicle.com/131023/poll/rape-techie-hyd-shows-new-anti-rape-act-has-no-meaning-comment"><b><br /></b></a>After  the rape, the bleeding victim was dropped at her hostel at Gowlidoddi.  The rapists threatened that she and her family would be hurt if she  tried to resist or report the crime to the police. These facts emerged  on Tuesday after the Cyberabad police held two people.<br />The  incident highlights how necessary it is to have safe public transport.  The woman came out of the Inorbit Mall in Hitec City at 7.30 pm and took  a bus to Mindspace junction, where she waited for transport to her  hostel. She waited more than half an hour without getting any transport.<br /><br /><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><br /><br /><br /><br />  <b>Cops verified 50k licences, 77 volvo cars</b> <br /><br />The  two men wanted for the rape of a woman in Hitec City area were arrested  three days later by Cyberabad police after a wide-ranging operation.  The police even took the help of the National Investigation Agency to  trace the Volvo car in which the woman was kidnapped by the men posing  as a taxi driver and passenger.<br />The police checked 50,000 driving  licences and 77 Volvo cars in the state. A four-second, blurred CCTV  grab of the car was the vital clue. Special teams were formed directly  under Commissioner of Police C.V. Anand to conduct the investigation.<br />The  CCTV footage of the car came from a camera installed at the Birla Open  Minds School by the management. The woman was raped in a mango grove  near the school.</div><br /><span style="font-size: large;"><b>Full Story : </b></span><br /><br />"We knew she would not complain.'' That is what one of the accused,  32-year-old Satish, said when asked by the police if he did not feel  scared that the victim - a software professional in an IT firm in  Cyberabad - would complain that he and his accomplice raped her and that  he could meet the fate of Delhi gangrape victim Jyoti's rapists. <br /><br />Ironically,  he was right. The girl in fact cooked up a story and did not reveal  that she had been raped till more than 24 hours later. In fact, her  original version was that she had been abducted by the two accused  drivers - Satish and 28-year-old Venkateswarulu - and they had let her  off once she raised the alarm. <br /><br />The techie after finishing her  shopping at a mall in Cyberabad at around 730 pm on Thursday evening,  had boarded a bus to get to another part of Cyberabad. There at 845 pm,  while waiting for a bus to go back to her hostel, this car with its two  inmates offered to drop her for 50 rupees. She haggled to make it 40  rupees and got into the car. Instead of taking her to the hostel, they  took her to the forests in the adjoining Medak district and raped her in  the car. <br /><br />Two hours into the journey gone horribly wrong, at  around 10:50 pm, she tried calling up her Bangalore-based boyfriend but  her phone was snatched away. Sensing something was wrong, her boyfriend  called up his friends in Hyderabad and asked them to lodge a complaint  with the police. Even as the cops started the search, the girl was  dropped off at her hostel at 1:45 am.<br /><br />The girl did not reveal to  her boyfriend or the police that she had been raped. But the cops were  suspicious having seen blood marks on her clothes. "She had spent five  hours with the two men. Seeing the circumstantial evidence, it could not  have been anything but rape,'' said C.V. Anand, the Commissioner of  Cyberabad Police.<br /><br />It was only the next evening that she came out  with the truth. The police then sought video footage from Birla school  which is enroute the area that the car passed by that night. CCTV  footage revealed that the car had passed in front of the school just  after midnight. "But since the footage was very grainy, we took the help  of the National Investigation Agency to identify the model of the car  and finally traced the Volvo car in which the two had kidnapped and  raped the girl,'' said Anand.<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/s33C6HDSJFg" width="420"></iframe> In fact, since the number plate was  not clearly visible, the police had to physically verify all the 77  Volvo S60 models in Hyderabad. It is a high end car that costs <span class="rupee">Rs.</span>40  lakh and had been leased by a businessman from a travel agency. Since  the owner was out of station, the duo had decided to use the vehicle to  commit the crime.<br /><br /><b>Cops verified 50k licences</b><br /><br />The girl, who the police call "Abhaya" to  maintain her confidentiality, is scared and shaken. The police has asked  the media to keep off the story, lest "we see her dead". "She does not  want her parents to know about it because she fears they will commit  suicide," said Anand.<br /><br />A medical examination confirmed rape,  following which the drivers were booked on charges of kidnapping,  gangrape, criminal intimidation and illegal confinement. <br /><br />Clinical  psychiatrist Dr Purnima Nagaraja says in ten out of ten cases, women do  not report rape in India. "In fact, it is only one in a thousand where  the victim goes public with the crime," she says. "They are scared about  their future, what their parents or husband will think and do not want  the undue publicity that it will attract."
